macOS: ffmpeg –with-fdk-aac on macOS Big Sur on Apple Silicon M1

by on Mar.27, 2021, under News

This is how to get ffmpeg with aac support running on Apple macOS Big Sur 11.x

brew update
brew tap homebrew-ffmpeg/ffmpeg
brew install homebrew-ffmpeg/ffmpeg/ffmpeg –with-fdk-aac

Afterwards we could use ffmpeg to convert a video for our iPad, iPhone etc:

ffmpeg -i somevideo.mkv -vcodec libx264 -profile:v main -level 3.1 -preset medium -crf 23 -x264-params ref=4 -acodec libfdk_aac -threads 8 somevideo.mp4

    Hmmm… any idea what happened here:

    brew install homebrew-ffmpeg/ffmpeg/ffmpeg –with-fdk-aac
    ==> Searching for similarly named formulae…
    Error: No similarly named formulae found.
    Error: No available formula or cask with the name “–with-fdk-aac”.
    ==> Searching for a previously deleted formula (in the last month)…
    Error: No previously deleted formula found.
    ==> Searching taps on GitHub…
    Error: No formulae found in taps.
