Photoshop: Create a dark text-based logo with gradient effect

This tutorial will describe how to create this great looking dark blue logo using Adobe Photoshop CS5.

First of all, open a new document:

Then use the text-tool
to write your text using white as the foreground-color. The font which has been used in this tutorial is named Blade 2 and can be downloaded here. The font-size is 150px.

After writing your text go to Layer → Layer Style → Blending Options… and configure the settings as shown in the screenshots below:

Now apply an Outer Glow with the following settings:

After that, apply the Bevel and Emboss settings:

And now change the settings for the Gradient Overlay:

Here are the color settings for the gradient:

Your text should look like this:

Now select the custom-shape-tool from the toolbox:

Select the Nature presets and use the Grass 3 shape:

Set the foreground-color to white and draw a huge grass-shape over your picture:

Edit the layer properties of the newly created custom-shape-layer. Set it to Overlay adjust the Opacity to 63%.

The only thing left to do is to flatten your image. So go to Layer → Flatten Image and you’re done.
